Our Story

We started working together nearly six years ago and have been shaped by shared experience, mutual respect, and a desire to build something different.

Some of us were paired together on our first design project in university, and we stayed closely connected throughout our studies and into practice. Each person brings a different set of skills, while respecting the strengths of one another. That balance is what keeps our work grounded and collaborative.

Before studying design, each of us came from different paths that help inform our work today:

Our Team

Headshot - michelle TEST 3

Michelle BID

This is our go-to person to make sure every detail is perfect.

Michelle's a Vancouver local whose lifelong pursuit of interior design is fueled by a deep appreciation for the psychology of built environments. After obtaining her Certificate in Interior Design at BCIT, she went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) from KPU. She is captivated by the way micro-details and spatial layouts influence our daily lives, making it her mission to uncover these subtle nuances in every project. With proven expertise in residential and multi-family interiors, Michelle crafts balanced, impactful design solutions.

Josh BID

This is who we come to for an imaginative design idea.

Josh grew up in the Alberta prairies, relocating to Vancouver with his partner and three kids on a crazy journey to obtain his Bachelor of Interior Design. After four intense years of travel and study, he has since settled in Calgary, where he now works as an interior designer and is the newest Interior Design Instructor at Bow Valley College. Known for his imaginative approach, Josh draws on his extensive background in visual media and marketing to develop well-considered design concepts with a distinct visual style. He is deeply committed to advocating for human health and environmental sustainability in the built environment and is an active member of the IDIBC Climate Action & Innovation Committee. He is also regularly involved with Design Week Calgary and is continually looking for new ways to learn from and contribute to the local design community.

Bo BID

This is our resident project organizer and researcher.

Bo grew up in a small fishing village on Prince Edward Island and, after several years in technical project coordination and logistics in Alberta, moved to Vancouver, where she earned her Bachelor of Interior Design from KPU. Bo considers design to be both an aesthetic and systematic, research-driven exercise. Her strengths lie in her endless curiosity and ability to analyze information quickly and turn it into functional, context-sensitive design solutions that respond to place, concept, and user. Bo is continually learning through hands-on personal and collaborative projects, including woodworking, content creation, and video editing for small businesses and friends. She also contributes to the studio’s visual and organizational systems, including the ongoing development of its website and branding alongside the team.

Hailey BID, RHFAC, LEED AP BD+C

This is the person who keeps everything running smoothly.

Hailey spent nearly a decade in the wellness industry, where she founded and ran a community yoga studio. It was leading the redesign of that space that later led her to earn her Bachelor of Interior Design at KPU. She approaches design with a mix of research and empathy, creating functional, down-to-earth spaces that respond to the people who use them and the context of each project. Rather than following trends, she focuses on clarity, intention, and how a space will actually be lived in. With a focus on accessibility, aging in place, and social impact, Hailey loves helping people design homes and spaces that can grow with them over time. As a certified Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) professional, she brings an inclusive, people-focused approach to both residential and public projects.

Our Culture

We built Good Folk because we wanted to create the kind of studio we wished existed when we started our careers.

Collaboration over hierarchy

Shared ownership + accountability

Respect for diverse skills + perspectives

We believe design has a responsibility beyond delivering projects. Wherever possible, we want to dedicate time and expertise to supporting non-profit and community organizations through pro-bono design work, assessments, and strategic guidance. We want to contribute to projects that prioritize universality, longevity, and the connection between environmental and human well-being.

Rather than relying on rigid hierarchies, we aim to create a studio where ideas can come from anywhere and where responsibility is shared across the team. As we grow, we hope to build a structure that includes profit sharing, and transparent, equitable compensation.
